Cities as solutions

Cities offer the best option for a growing world where populations are shifting to urban centers. By 2030, 4.9 billion people, 60% of the world’s population, will be city dwellers. What are cities doing to meet that demand? They need to be prepared with housing that is affordable and streets with minimal congestion for both people and vehicles. That means thinking today about the transit solutions that will need to be in place 10, 20 and 50 years from now. Policy makers should consider this now as they build new neighborhoods and rebuild old ones. They should look to new development options such as Eco-Districts, consider how space can be repurposed to place people at the center, and integrate multiple mobility solutions that maximize opportunities for all.
